Rebecca Moss
Safety at Los Alamos National Lab
Rebecca Moss reports for the local newspaper in Santa Fe, The New Mexican and her work is also distributed by ProPublica. One of Rebecca’s “beats” is Los Alamos National Laboratories, a place whose many safety failings have closed down its most important workplace – the plutonium lab where nuclear cores for updated weapons are made. The Trump Administration’s response to these failings is all too typical. The newest management contract for the Labs rewards some of those most responsible for past management missteps, and the chief oversight agency for nuclear weapons manufacturers, the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, is being stripped of many of its powers and responsibilities.
